Re: All Linux is, is some advanced dos operating system...

Actually I've seen a distro (dunno the name of it) that can run on like 8MB of RAM. Of course, I'd never use it, but some guy with a spare computer in his closet might be able to.

i wouldn't use wireless networking as an example of ease of use for linux.

Because Network admins will be using machines that do not have any GUI (most -serious- servers do not have any VGA output) , Why? because it is unnecessary and the console is better. The throughput of information you can send to the machine using a keyboard is much more than using a mouse, the bad thing is you need to learn the commands.

In my opinion any server running a OS that is not Unix based i.e. Windows, denotes a dramatic lack of knowledge in the people who designed/maintain it.

About the end-user, some people that aren't to smart prefer windows because they are used to it. Linux has a lot of different GUI interfaces you may choose. You may even make it behave exactly like windows (the GUI, not the reliability :P ).

Hope this helps you understand

not the setting up of the wireless, some ppl seem to have a real problem with that. I was merley providing an example where linux was quicker and simpler than windows.

If it's not userfriendly, why is Dell (the second largest computer manufacturer in the world) discard windows and switch to linux?

I just like linux because now my computer doesn't crash every 5 seconds and it runs alot smoother

If servers ran windows the internet would just be one big BSOD.

I've been using Windows XP since it came out, I used it for about everything possible, trust me, and I never had a crash.
